✨🧚♀️ Floral Wine Fairy Finds! Bellone ✨
Some grapes feel like they’ve been waiting centuries for you to discover them.
Bellone is an ancient white grape native to Lazio, just south of Rome, with roots stretching back to the Roman Empire. Historians believe it may even be the legendary Uva Pantastica praised by Pliny the Elder nearly 2,000 years ago. The Romans loved it for its generous texture and delicious flavor, often pairing it with fresh bread.
Naturally, I couldn’t resist following this little piece of wine history.
This bottling saw a touch of skin contact and was fermented with indigenous yeast, adding another layer of character without overshadowing the grape’s beautiful personality. It was my very first time tasting Bellone, and what a delightful introduction it was.
🌼 Tasting Notes:
Bursting with fresh mango, lemon mousse cream, crunchy peach, pear, sea-kissed minerality, and intensely perfumed white blossoms. Medium-bodied with beautifully balanced acidity, it carries just enough weight across the palate to feel textured while remaining wonderfully fresh.
A grape with ancient Roman roots that somehow feels completely alive today. Safe to say this won’t be my last encounter with Bellone.
🌸 Have you ever tried Bellone before? What are your thoughts, and have you got your hands on any other bottles besides this one?
